Q. Do I need travel insurance?
A. Yes! It is advisable to purchase travel insurance at time of booking. Weather is the biggest risk and uncertainty for traveling to the Channel Islands and is impossible to predict weeks or months in advance. While cancellations are rare, they can occur due to weather which impacts the safety of our adventure travel customers, crew and vessels. Safety is the number one concern and we will not embark on any trip to the islands if they are any weather related risks. If a trip needs to be cancelled for any reason (e.g. mechanical problems, lack of participation, weather, etc.), we will attempt to contact you by 3:00pm two days prior to the trip. Please e-mail if there is any concern regarding the trip status. Shoreline Summit Adventures cannot accept responsibility for personal travel expenses incurred.

Q. What should I pack?
A. While this can vary from person-to-person, we generally have the following recommendations:

  • Dress in layers for both warm and cool weather
  • Low-heeled rubber-soled shoes for on board the boat
  • Seasickness medicine (take seasickness medicine the night before and the morning of departure if you have the tendency to get seasick)
  • Swimsuit
  • Towels
  • Personal toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Camera (dry-bag or zip lock bag suggested)
  • Alcoholic Beverages (if desired)
  • Sleeping bag for extra comfort

Q. What about gratuities?
A. Please note the cost of the trip does not include any gratuity for your hardworking crew. Tipping is not required but sincerely appreciated when earned. The crews are always trying to make your trip special through their extra efforts. With this in mind, a 15% gratuity is customary.

Q. Is there a lost and found?
A. Should any personal item be misplaced, forgotten, lost or stolen, Shoreline Summit Adventures will do everything it can to retrieve the missing item. However, Shoreline Summit Adventures cannot accept responsibility for your personal effects. Please check the boat thoroughly after your trip.

Q. What is the number one tip to enjoy the adventure travel experience?
A. Once you’re warm, dry and comfortable (either not prone to motion sickness or taking medications to prevent it), flexibility and patience are the number one virtues for enjoying adventure travel. Every trip is different and offers unique opportunities and challenges. Being open to the endless possibilities while being flexible and patient as they unfold will make each adventure a memory cherished for a lifetime.
